The Role
- Conduct departmental opening and closing procedures according to shift allocation.
- Systematically check all bedrooms (departures, stay‑overs, vacant rooms) to ensure they have been cleaned and serviced to brand standards.
- Supervise the work of the room attendants, provide assistance and take corrective measures for any deviation from hotel standards.
- Regularly hand back ready rooms to reception to ensure no guests are waiting for rooms.
- Inform the office coordinator of any discrepancies (extra departures, extended stays, etc.).
- Ensure any V.I.P. or special requirements are prepared and ready for guests on arrival.
- Carry out the daily briefing and a 15‑minute training with all room attendants and housekeeping associates.
- Coordinate training and orientation of team members; maintain training records and update accordingly.
- Report and follow up on all maintenance requests on a daily basis.
- Ensure occupied rooms are serviced no later than 15:00 hours.
- Enforce the "Do Not Disturb" policy and procedures.
- Conduct correct hand‑over procedure for each shift.
- Assist in inventories and attend or hold training sessions when required.
- Hold team meetings, produce action plans for the Director of Services, and ensure they are followed up.
- Carry out 1:1 meetings and staff appraisals.
- Assist in building and maintaining an efficient staff team, taking an active interest in their welfare, health, safety, training and development.
- Maintain discipline within the department.
- Ensure departmental practices and procedures are implemented and modify as requested.
- Supervise deep cleaning of bedrooms, changing shower curtains, etc.
- Ensure all guest requests are carried out.
- On shift completion, ensure all service rooms are locked, clean, and tidy; corridors and trolleys are tidy and worksheets signed.
- Maintain a smooth working relationship with associates of other departments.
- Ensure room attendants report lost property promptly and record accordingly.
- Be conversant with standard cleaning procedures and correct usage of cleaning chemicals.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times.
- Report maintenance faults or hazards immediately to the office coordinator.
- Report damaged fixtures and fittings that need replacement.
- Maintain equipment, service rooms and store cupboards at required standard.
- Follow correct procedure for storage and recording of lost property.
- Stay updated on current company and departmental policies and procedures.
