Area Manager, Management Operations Manager

Join MSALABS as Area Manager and play a key role in the accurate preparation and processing of mineral samples for analysis. You'll be responsible for overseeing operational activities across the designated area. This role ensures the effective implementation of strategic initiatives, compliance with local regulations, and optimal performance of laboratory operations. The manager will lead lab teams, support lab managers, and act as lab manager when necessary.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and technical skills, ensuring compliance with safety and quality protocols while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Area ManagerLocation:
East Africa
- Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with group goals across the area
- Review analytical reports and perform quality control checks
- Monitor ongoing jobs and investigate any overdue tasks
- Supervise and support lab managers within the area
- Step in as acting lab manager when required to ensure continuity and performance
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for lab managers across the area
- Ensure labs are adequately staffed, trained, and equipped to meet operational standards
- Lead the planning and execution of new lab setups across the area
- Support site selection, infrastructure development, equipment procurement, and staffing
- Ensure timely and compliant setup aligned with operational standards and local regulations
- Ensure all operations comply with local laws, health and safety standards, and industry regulations
- Conduct audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to the Regional Manager
- Identify areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions
- Define and track KPIs relevant to lab performance, operational efficiency, and compliance
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the Regional Manager and senior leadership
- Analyze trends and variances to identify areas for improvement
Strengthen key client relationships; become a trusted area contact - Respond swiftly to inquiries and engage other functions (QA, HSE, management, business development, etc.) where appropriate
- Promote a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the area
- Identify inefficiencies and areas for enhancement across operations
- Lead initiatives to streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve service delivery
- Foster a culture of innovation and proactive problem-solving within teams
- Bachelor’s degree in science, Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- Master’s degree or professional certification is an advantage
- Excellent communication skills in English (knowledge of French is a plus)
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- Knowledge of regional regulatory frameworks and compliance standards
- Proficiency in performance monitoring and KPI reporting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
- Familiarity with quality assurance principles and lab operations
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work well under pressure
- 5-10 years of laboratory experience, preferably in a regional or multi-site role
- Minimum 2 years as a supervisor/manager
- Proven track record of managing teams and driving operational excellence
- Experience in setting up new facilities or labs is a strong asset
- ISO
17025 systems awareness, internal auditing and method validation where applicable
- Must be physically fit to meet the job’s inherent requirements
- Willingness to travel to laboratory sites as required, including internationally
