Agricultural Systems Specialist; Uganda National
Our client is looking for a qualified Agricultural Systems Specialist to contribute to a national agrivoltaics assignment in Uganda. This role is ideal for agriculture professionals with deep experience in agronomy, crop science, and climate-smart farming systems.
Working alongside the team leader, you will support the planning and successful execution of all project phases. You will begin by conducting a comprehensive desk review of scientific literature and existing agrivoltaics research, helping to shape the Inception Report that guides the technical direction of the assignment. You will also organise and participate in stakeholder consultations, engaging farmers, community leaders, and agricultural experts.
A core component of your role involves determining crop compatibility and water management practices suitable for agrivoltaics environments. You will assess which crops or livestock types can flourish under solar installations, taking into account shading patterns, soil quality, water availability, and local farming systems.
You will also contribute to the establishment and logistical facilitation of the agrivoltaics task force meetings, ensuring timely coordination among key agricultural stakeholders.
Qualifications Required- Master’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Engineering, or Crop Protection
- C1 English proficiency; knowledge of local Ugandan languages is an advantage
- Minimum 5 years of experience in climate-smart agriculture and agricultural systems
- Minimum 5 years in sustainable farming technology and agricultural innovation
- At least 3 years of experience setting up agricultural technologies
This is a contractor position based in Uganda with a rate of USD 250–350 per project phase
