Application Scientist / Spectroscopist (FTIR / Raman / FT-NIR) – Middle East and Africa

Travel: 50% travel required. Predominantly within Middle East and Africa, with additional EMEA travel as needed.
Position Summary: The Application Scientist/Spectroscopist provides expert technical leadership for industrial micro- and macro‑sample analysis using FTIR, FT‑NIR and Raman, including FTIR microscopy. The role delivers pre‑ and post‑sales support, customer training, sample/data interpretation and on‑site technical problem solving across the Middle East and Africa territory while maintaining readiness for wider EMEA needs. The position also carries direct accountability for applications lab management and serves as a key technical partner to commercial teams.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Field & Customer Applications Support (Pre‑Sales / Post‑Sales):
- Serve as the subject‑matter expert for spectroscopy‑based industrial applications.
- Lead discovery with customers to understand requirements and recommend fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
- Execute customer‑facing activities including feasibility discussions, in‑lab and on‑site demonstrations, method guidance, and troubleshooting support.
- Deliver expert spectral/data interpretation and clear conclusions.
- Produce high‑quality customer reports aligned to requirements and ROI.
- Technical Expertise & Instrument Troubleshooting:
- Provide hands‑on instrument troubleshooting, diagnostics, root‑cause analysis and coordinate with service as required.
- Maintain deep knowledge of spectroscopy workflows relevant to industrial sample matrices and customer use cases.
- Lab Ownership & Management (Required):
- Own day‑to‑day applications lab management including instrument readiness, scheduling, sample intake, preparation, storage and workflow planning.
- Track consumables inventory, ensure documentation, good lab practices and EHS compliance.
- Continuously improve lab processes and customer experience.
- Stakeholder & Territory
Collaboration:- Partner with ME and Africa commercial teams and the wider EMEA network to support opportunity development.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure consistent customer outcomes and internal alignment.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- Education:
BSc required; MSc/PhD preferred in Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, Analytical Chemistry or equivalent. - Minimum 2 years hands‑on experience operating FTIR instruments, including FTIR microscope.
- Experience handling and preparing a wide variety of sample matrices.
- Proven spectral/data interpretation skills across FTIR, FT‑NIR, Raman and FTIR microscopy.
- Hands‑on instrument troubleshooting confidence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to produce clear customer reports tied to ROI.
- Strong time management to deliver high‑quality work efficiently and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
- Must live in Dubai and be able to travel regularly within Middle East and Africa (50% travel, mainly within region with EMEA travel as required).
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):
- Experience with Raman or FT‑NIR spectroscopy in industrial applications.
- Experience delivering customer trainings, method development, feasibility demonstrations and supporting commercial teams.
- Fluency in additional local languages relevant to the territory, besides professional English.
