Job Summary

The Early Intervention & Social Skills Special Education Teacher is a lead educator who supports young children with developmental differences across two integrated settings. In the mornings, this role provides early intervention services for toddlers ages 18 months–3, emphasizing foundational developmental skills, caregiver coaching, and individualized goal-setting. In the afternoons, the Teacher leads inclusive, small-group social skills programming for preschool-aged children (ages 2–5), focusing on communication, regulation, peer interaction, and school readiness.

This position combines classroom leadership, curriculum design, developmental assessment, staff supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure children and families receive high-quality, individualized, and inclusive support.

• Lead an early intervention classroom, developing and implementing individualized, developmentally appropriate activities aligned with child-specific goals

• Conduct developmental assessments across domains using standardized tools (e.g., DAYC-2)

• Monitor, track, and adjust goals to support measurable developmental progress

• Prepare comprehensive developmental progress reports and maintain accurate session notes

• Coach and empower caregivers to support carry-over of skills at home and in the community

• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary team members including Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, BCBAs, RBTs, classroom staff, and the Program Director

• Lead inclusive social skills groups focused on communication, emotional regulation, peer interaction, play, and group participation

• Design and implement a curriculum that promotes social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development

• Foster a collaborative, engaging classroom environment where children of diverse learning styles feel supported and empowered

• Adapt activities to meet individual developmental needs within a group setting

• Conduct ongoing individualized assessments to inform instruction and support goal progression

• Write progress reports using person-first language and maintain open communication with families

• Oversee the classroom team, including Associate and Assistant Educators, ensuring effective teamwork and high-quality educational delivery

• Supervise, mentor, and coach classroom staff through observation, modeling, feedback, and training

• Conduct performance evaluations, set objectives, recognize achievements, and support professional growth

• Lead onboarding and training for new hires and provide ongoing professional development to ensure consistency and excellence

• Manage staff time and attendance, addressing scheduling, punctuality, and attendance concerns

• Facilitate regular team meetings to discuss strategies, challenges, and progress

• Collaborate with preschool leadership and other departments to support program goals and operational needs

• Ensure classroom preparedness, adherence to curriculum timelines, and compliance with State Licensing, safety, and health regulations

• Complete assigned cleaning tasks and weekly duties

This position reports directly to the Site Supervisor and provides direct supervision to Associate and Assistant Educators, supporting a cohesive and collaborative educational team.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development, Special Education (required)

• Master’s Degree preferred

• A minimum of 12 units in Early Childhood Development/Education.

• Minimum of 2 years of classroom leadership experience independently in an inclusive, early intervention, or special education setting

• Strong understanding of child development and best practices for supporting diverse learning needs

• Experience conducting developmental assessments and writing progress reports

• Passion for inclusive, relationship-based, and developmentally appropriate education

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children, families, and colleagues

• California Special Education credential or comparable certification preferred

• Must pass TB test, criminal background check, and maintain current First Aid and CPR certification

• Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic environment

• Bend, reach, kneel, and sit on the floor for up to 30 minutes at a time

• Lift up to 40 pounds

• Climb and descend stairways

• Ability to work in a moderate to loud environment
