Special Education Instructional Assistant III

The job of Special Education Instructional Assistant III is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional assigned self-contained classroom comprised of students with significant cognitive delays, physical, emotional, educational, or behavioral needs, or in a general education classroom that includes students with these needs; acting as a learning resource; assisting in supervision, care, and instruction, assisting in implementing plans for instruction;

monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and providing information to appropriate school personnel. This job reports to the Assigned Supervisor.

Instructional Assistants/Paraeducators, whether general education or special education, are required by law to be able to demonstrate knowledge of, and the ability to assist with, instruction, reading/language arts, and mathematics, either by possessing an Associate's Degree or higher, 48 semester college units, or passing a minimum proficiency exam.
