Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide trial and testing for all aspects of the product development process while preparing specifications for fabrication, assembly and installation of apparatus, and control instrumentation used to test experimental or prototype structural products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and participate in installing unit or system to be tested in test fixtures, connecting valves, pumps, hydraulic, mechanical or electrical controls, cabling, tubing, power source, and indicating instruments.
  • Activates controls to apply electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical power and subject test item to successive steps in test cycle.
  • Monitor controls and instruments and record test data for engineer's use.
  • Examine parts for conformance with dimensional specifications.
  • Fabricates precision parts for test apparatus or interpret specifications for workers fabricating parts.
  • Confer with engineering personnel to resolve the problems relating to product design, fabrication and specifications, and to review test plans such as types and cycles of tests, conditions under which tests are to be conducted, and duration of tests.
  • Work with third party test lab in the conducting of the formal testing.
  • Organize the test laboratory and support safety management and IPM management in the test laboratory.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing in the implementation of product trial and testing.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Education/Experience/Skills
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Engineering/Architectural plus 2 years’ related experience; or combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Communication skills with an ability to develop collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to utilize hand and power tools.
Physical Demands

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and is expected to use proper lifting techniques at all times. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit.

The employee may occasionally be required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

Travel Requirements

The travel required for this position is less than 10%.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position. Individuals are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at designated times and in specified environments in accordance with established safety program requirements. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate. While performing job duties, individuals may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts.
