The purpose of this position is to operate extrusion handling systems.

Includes but is not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Check production orders and arrange press procedures and drawings. Enter production data into face units for extrusion.
• Check die assembly and oven times. Load die into oven by monorail crane.
• Operate and adjust the following equipment as necessary:
• Extrusion press
• Billet loader
• Furnace
• Billet shear
• Saw
• Puller
• Head and tail stretcher
• Overhead cranes
• Die oven. Adjust equipment as necessary to ensure proper operation.
• Responsible for the following variables of extrusion:
  • Check temperature of furnace, container heat, and die oven heat
  • Adjust extrusion speed
  • Adjust cooling speed
  • Puller and stretcher tension
  • Carbon blocking for each shape
• Assist with quality assurance through visual observations and make initial judgments on product quality.
• Prepare press for die changes, check die assembly, and input die information into face units.
• Update press reports with die information, number of billets, weights, number of pieces and performance of each die.
• Assist with the training of all new press operators and press crew members.

• Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must have the ability to read, write and count.
• Must be able to read scale calipers and micrometers and understand the metric system.
• Must have demonstrated effective communications skills and the ability to be a team player.
• Must have the ability to learn the job duties within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the supervisor.
• Must be able to lift approximately 40-50 lbs.

At YKK AP America Inc., pay is part of a total compensation package and is determined within a range. The hourly pay range for this position ranges from $22.32-$29.43, depending on experience, skills and qualifications.

Travel required for this position is less than 1%.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The work environment is generally loud and may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, high heat, wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions and vibration. Appropriate safety protective equipment may be required as outlined by safety program rules.
