SummaryThis position reports to the Assistant Manager, Packing. The purpose is to oversee and coordinate the department’s daily productivity and production, carrying out duties personally or through subordinate employees.
Supervisory Responsibilities- Coordinates daily production requirements via dispatch schedule and sequences materials to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Inspects product for quality and defects using visual observations.
- Understands strategic expectations and goals for the Packing Department.
- Ensures daily communications from Department Leadership to Team Leads are understood and followed per daily work instructions.
- Assists Leads with troubleshooting or handling problems in their operating area, including personnel, operational, and maintenance issues.
- Knows, supports, and communicates plant health and safety goals, policies, and procedures to Leads, including leading monthly safety topics with employees.
- Supports maintenance of preventive maintenance and downtime events as needed.
- Ensures all incidents including environmental and near misses are reported, investigated, and documented with preventive/corrective actions and employee statements.
- Notifies appropriate outside contacts after hours based on incident severity and situation.
- Understands quality standards and expectations established by the plant’s Quality Management System.
- Supports hiring for vacancies within the Packing Department.
- Performs time approval functions, processes vacation requests, and coordinates time-off coverage as needed.
- Addresses discipline, performance, or attendance issues through progressive discipline with HR and Department Leadership support.
- Reviews and recommends process improvements related to team member development, production methods, equipment, quality, safety, service, and shift performance.
- High school diploma or GED plus 5 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent problem-solving ability.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of computer use, including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Ability to understand, support, and enforce operational and technical policies.
- A sense of urgency and ownership are required.

Physical DemandsThe physical demands include vision abilities (close, distance, peripheral), standing, walking, talking or hearing, using hands to handle and reach, and occasional sitting, climbing, bending, kneeling, or crawling. Travel is less than 5%.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment may require wearing safety equipment. Noise level is usually loud. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor conditions, and vibration.
