Are you currently pursuing a degree in Recreation or Sports & Leisure AND interested in expanding your knowledge and experience in summer camps? Do you want to work with a dynamic and experienced Recreation Team that values innovation, training and growth? Then look no further for the perfect internship for you!

The Camps Intern plays a key support role within the Preschool, Youth & Teen (PYT) team to ensure the successful preparation, operation and closeout of the City of Dublin's summer camp programs. This internship is designed to provide meaningful experience in recreation programming, youth development, operations, logistics and staff support.

Scheduling/Availability

* The successful candidate is expected to work 15-20 hours per week from April-May and 35-40 hours per week from June-August

* Although the internship is designed to begin in April, the actual start date may be adjusted to align with the successful candidate's availability

* The ideal candidate will also be available to work occasional evening and weekend shifts as needed

* During camp season, the successful candidate may be assigned to fill in as a Camp Counselor or Assistant Supervisor as needed

Intern Pay Structure

Undergraduate Freshman: $15.00/hour

Undergraduate Sophomore: $15.50/hour

Undergraduate Junior: $16.00/hour

Undergraduate Senior: $16.50/hour

First Year Graduate Student: $17.50/hour

Second Year Graduate Student: $19.00/hour

Examples of Duties

These duties reflect typical responsibilities but may evolve based on program needs. Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Pre-Season Responsibilities (April-May)

* Staff Onboarding & Uniform Prep:
Organize, label and distribute uniforms and nametags; assist with compliance and training tracking.

* Training & Orientation Materials:
Print/assemble staff training guides, tri-folds, signage, orientation packets and camp binders.

* Camper & Program Materials:
Create weekly sunscreen logs, support Supervisors with camper nametags and assemble materials such as coloring sheets, camp signage and yearbook content.

* Technology Preparation:
Organize tablets, phones, laptops and MiFis; install apps; program phone contacts; prepare login lists and site-specific inventory.

* First Aid & Supplies:
Prepare first-aid backpacks for each camp location; assist with supply organization and inventory.

* Team & Office Support:
Attend team meetings; support printing, purchasing and preparing items for staff orientation and the start of camp.

2. In-Season Responsibilities (June-August)

Communication & Media

* Draft weekly newsletters for all camp locations including announcements, field trips and photos.

* Review camper photos for appropriateness and accuracy; communicate reminders to staff as needed.

Program & Operations Support

* Coordinate the Summer Library Program with CML-Dublin, including weekly book exchanges.

* Assist with field trip coordination, payments, and onsite support for major trips.

* Purchase and restock programming supplies in coordination with Program Specialist and administrative staff.

Staffing Support

* Fill in as needed as a Camp Counselor or Assistant Supervisor, providing activity support, supervision and behavior management.

Extended Camp Weeks (Late July-Early August)

* Assist with planning Extended Weeks curriculum (crafts, outdoor education, sports/games, team-building).

* Support supply purchasing; field trips, pool days and daily operations.

* Serve in an Assistant Supervisor role during Extended Weeks as assigned.

3. End-of-Season & Post-Camp Responsibilities (Late August)

* Assist in packing and closing out materials at each camp location.

* Sort, clean, inventory supplies technology, badges and binders.

* Support PYT team in reorganizing camp storage locations.

* Organize digital files, newsletters and documentation for transition into the next camp season.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

* Currently pursuing a degree in Recreation Administration, Sports & Leisure Studies, Outdoor Education or a related field

* Possession of a valid driver's license

* Ability to work independently and collaboratively
