Responsibilities

The Senior Cardiovascular Sonographer performs diagnostic cardiac examinations, utilizing equipment in various modes and techniques to locate, evaluate and record pertinent anatomical pathological and functional data of the cardiovascular system. They are recognized as clinical experts in the field of Cardiac Sonography, performing high skill level ultrasound exams, participating in the lab accreditation process as well as the quality improvement/assurance process.

  • Recognized as clinical expert in the field Cardiac Sonography performing high skill level ultrasound exams, participating in the lab accreditation process as well as the quality improvement/assurance process.
  • Consistent performance (at least 50% of the time) of all high skill level exams performed within the lab; exams include but are not limited to Echocardiograms for the evaluation of Mitral Valve Clip and/or Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacements, Stress Echocardiograms, LV/RV 3d Volumes and LV/RV Strain Analysis
  • Regarded as a subject matter expert and mentor for other Cardiac Sonographers.

    Serves as a professional and technical role model for staff.
  • Assists in teaching students, residents, fellows and new employees.
  • Assists with workflow and scheduling and rescheduling of exams when necessary.
  • Assists with equipment service needs (Preventative Maintenance and repair) when management is not present, or as delegated.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of clinical indications and all procedures performed.
  • Independently perform all cardiovascular diagnostic examinations within ARDMS scope of practice.
  • Independently perform high skill level cardiovascular ultrasound exams
  • Completes findings for each exam. Confirms the necessary information is present according to IAC standards and lab protocols.
  • Creates recording of findings, per lab protocols, for analysis and interpretation based on the disease state of the patient presented for testing.
  • Detects malfunctions and disease states of patient during diagnostic exam, determining anatomy and variability from patient–to–patient to optimize the ultrasound tools required to obtain technically satisfactory images.
  • Acts within ARDMS scope of practice, utilizes independent, professional judgment to adapt procedure plan to optimize exam results.
  • Clearly translates data from exam into written report for physician interpretation.
