Enterprise Architecture defines architectural models, governance, and transition initiatives to coordinate stakeholders and enable business change, with consideration of application, information, technology and security architecture.
Job SummaryThe Director, Enterprise Architecture is a strategic leadership role responsible for establishing and governing enterprise architecture practices across the organization. This role ensures alignment between business goals and IT strategy, guiding the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and sustainable technology solutions. The Director will lead a team of architects focused on the Cloud, Infrastructure, Application Development, Technology Acquisition, and TCO domains.
The ideal candidate will collaborate with senior stakeholders to drive transformation, standards, efficiency and strong cost management.
Define and evolve the enterprise architecture strategy to support core optimization, growth, and innovation
Lead the development of multi-year roadmaps for cloud adoption, infrastructure modernization, and application portfolio optimization
Partner with senior business and IT leaders to align technology investments with strategic priorities
Establish and lead architecture governance frameworks, standards, and processes
Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and operational requirements
Drive consistency and reuse across platforms, applications, and services managing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Architecture Review Boards (ARB)
Central point for acquisition of hardware, software, and Saas; bringing together technology leaders, procurement, legal, and third-party risk
Participate in larger Cardinal cost management initiatives
Manage key vendor relationships during technology acquisition phase
Oversee cloud strategy including hybrid and multi-cloud environments
Guide infrastructure modernization efforts including network, compute, and storage
Evaluate emerging technologies and trends to inform strategic decisions
Provide architectural oversight for enterprise application development and integration
Promote API-first, microservices, and Dev Sec Ops practices
Support agile delivery models and continuous improvement initiatives
Build and lead a high-performing team of enterprise architects and domain specialists
Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability
Mentor and develop talent across the architecture function
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred. Master’s degree a plus
10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise architecture, IT strategy, or technology leadership preferred
Proven experience leading architecture functions in large, complex organizations
Deep expertise in cloud platforms, infrastructure, and modern application development
Strong understanding of governance, risk, and compliance frameworks
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills
Certifications such as TOGAF, AWS/Azure Architect, or similar are a plus
Ability to maintain a regular presence in Dublin, OH HQ
Provides leadership to managers and experienced professional staff; may also manage front line supervisors
Manages an organizational budget
Develops and implements policies and procedures to achieve organizational goals
Assists in the development of functional strategy
Decisions have an extended impact on work processes, outcomes, and customers
Interacts with internal and/or external leaders, including senior management
Persuades others into agreement in sensitive situations while maintaining positive relationships
