Network Design Engineer, Network Infrastructure Design & Deployment

Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast-paced technology company and a leader in data centers. We are expanding our Network Infrastructure Design & Deployment (NIDD) team within Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) and seek a subject matter expert with experience in designing and planning copper and fiber network solutions, cabling pathways, and related standards to advance AWS Data Centers. The successful candidate will create detailed pathway and cabling designs, drive process improvements, and adhere to industry and AWS standards.

The mission of the team is to deliver network capacity on time with zero rework. This role will manage the planning phase of cable pathways and passive network solutions.

This role will be based out of a corporate office and remote sites; international and domestic travel may be required up to 25% of the time. The position requires that the candidate be a US citizen and maintain an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.

• Develop pathway, space, and cabling designs, along with specifications for construction and permitting.
• Produce timely, scalable fiber optic and copper plant designs and specifications.
• Review and approve ICT pathway, cabling, and equipment submittals.
• Identify and respond to risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively.
• Support new technology and design activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce cost, and shorten installation time.
• Travel 20% or more to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at AWS Data Centers.
• Conduct quality assurance audits at project sites, collaborate with project managers and contractors, and implement corrective actions to resolve issues.

• Knowledge of critical data center equipment.
• 5+ years of ICT design experience in Mission Critical Environments.
• 5+ years of experience developing design documentation (plans, specifications, etc.) for construction and/or permitting.
• 5+ years of experience with fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products, technologies, and standards.
• 5+ years of experience marking building design sets using Bluebeam Revu or similar software for construction and permitting purposes.
• Ability to prioritize and consistently deliver results in a complex, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication, attention to detail, and high quality standards.
• Current, active US Government Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.

• Experience with CAD technologies such as AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, Solid Works, CREO, BIM
  360, Sketch Up, or Key Shot.
• Experience coordinating between technical teams, peers, and business stakeholders.
• BICSI RCDD Certification or internationally recognized equivalents (e.g., CDCDP, DCDC).
• Ability to think creatively to reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality, reliability, or maintainability.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
