The Meat Cutter at Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is responsible for keeping store meat cases stocked and clean during business hours. This position requires assisting customers, maintaining a friendly and energetic demeanor, and adhering to all procedural guidelines set by the Meat Department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Stocks meat cases, presenting, facing, filling, and organizing all product items as directed by the Meat Department schematics and ensuring tag and pricing accuracy.
  • Ensures cleanliness of meat aisles, storage area, and work area for safety; cleans shelves and products, keeps floors free of liquid spills or water, removes hazardous debris, and sweeps.
  • Monitors the rotation of all meat products, paying particular attention to expired stock.
  • Responds positively to customer inquiries and assists customers with purchases, information, and product selection while working the meat counter, including selling and cross‑selling of products.
  • Receives, inspects, and logs products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
  • Operates and uses equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
  • Monitors proper temperature maintenance at all stages during the production of meat and seafood items.
  • Cuts, trays, and packages all required meat and seafood products for the day.
  • Maintains organization, stacking, and rotating of all meat products in the cooler and freezer.
  • Uses knowledge of scales, weight measures, and tare to accurately weigh and label meat products; includes packaging and wrapping product and following the proper dating procedures.
  • Prepares specialty meat and seafood products using recipe standards set by Fresh Thyme, including using proper ingredients and assembly.
  • Maintains proper safety practices while using all cutting accessories, complying with mesh glove usage when cutting.
  • Participates in pre‑inventory preparation, including back‑stock and ensuring tags match products.
  • Maintains high product knowledge and preparation skills.
  • Walks the department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and overall clean appearance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalency degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience.
  • Preferred 2‑3 years of grocery retail experience in Meat department processes and procedures.
  • Experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
  • Journeyman cutter or completed apprenticeship program preferred.

  • Expert packaging and wrapping skills.
  • Ability to cut and weigh various amounts of meat and seafood.
  • Understanding of COOL compliance for seafood products and their country of origin.

Compensation

Salary range: $19.50 – $22.00 per hour.
