Overview

Team Captain – Apparel at DICK’S Sporting Goods leads the apparel department by delivering an engaging shopping experience rooted in product knowledge and athlete connection. The role involves coaching teammates, driving sales, and ensuring athletes feel confident in their selections.

• Deliver outstanding athlete experiences by anticipating needs and providing accurate product information.
• Uphold company merchandising and presentation standards, including floor sets, signage, price changes, inventory presentation, and replenishment.
• Promote and lead company programs such as customer loyalty, warranty sales, and private label credit card enrollment.
• Collaborate with Sales Manager (SM) and Assistant Sales Manager (ASM) to develop 30‑60‑90 day plans supporting business priorities for assigned departments.
• Establish working plans for operational initiatives, staffing, hiring, and merchandising while adhering to budgets and financial goals.
• Execute plans, monitor progress, and make adjustments using independent judgment to achieve store goals and maintain payroll/financial objectives.
• Serve as Head Coach when sole leader, performing store oversight including opening/closing procedures, front‑end and cash office functions, and team supervision.
• Communicate departmental goals and assign workload to direct reports, creating schedules that meet athlete traffic demands and operational initiatives.
• Build, coach, and lead a strong, effective team; handle hiring, onboarding, retention, coaching, development, and performance management.
• Conduct performance management, including annual reviews, promotional recommendations, and accountability for policy compliance.
• Create a welcoming store environment and enforce safety, loss prevention, and standard operating procedures.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• 1‑3 years of experience, with previous retail/customer‑facing roles required.
• Previous people leadership experience preferred.

• Targeted pay range: $44,500.00 – $58,500.00 (based on a 38‑hour work week).
