Join our Team - STAFF PLATFORM (SOFTWARE) ENGINEER
At Apricity Robotics we strive to harness the power of AI and robotics to bring the warmth of hope and healing, revolutionizing healthcare and transforming challenging situations into opportunities for growth and progress. Our robot is improving sonographers’ quality of life and improving the quality of ultrasound scans. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in creativity, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced intelligence, dexterity, and care – specifically designed to work alongside people, in existing environments.
Every day, we embrace challenging problems, developing new solutions and practical implementations that make robots intuitive and exceptional co-workers. We approach our work with passion, making every day an adventure.
- Apricity Robotics is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to own the architecture of our robotics software platform, the foundation that our control algorithms, AI systems, and safety layers all run on. You will set the technical direction for how the platform interfaces with hardware, evolves as the product moves from Class II 510(k) clearance toward a commercial fleet, and holds up under FDA design controls.
You will work closely with robotics, AI, quality, and regulatory teams, and mentor the engineers building on top of what you design. - Own the architecture and technical roadmap for the software platform layer: hardware interfaces, control algorithm integration, and safety-critical subsystems.
- Make and document platform-level design decisions (real-time constraints, fault handling, safety interlocks, versioning and upgrade strategy) that other engineers build against.
- Drive software development practices that satisfy IEC 62304 software safety classification requirements, including for Class B/C components, and partner with quality/regulatory to keep design history files and traceability current.
- Set and enforce standards for test coverage, code review, and documentation across the platform team.
- Provide technical mentorship and leadership to platform and firmware engineers.
- Represent the platform architecture in design reviews, risk assessments (ISO 14971), and audits.
- Partner with robotics, controls, and AI leads to make sure the platform's abstractions match what those teams actually need, not just what's easiest to build.
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other technical discipline.
- 10 to 15 years of software engineering experience, including having taken at least one complex platform or product from early development through commercial launch.
- Experience building software for a medical device, or another safety-critical, regulated industry (for example automotive functional safety, aerospace, or industrial robotics), under a formal software lifecycle standard such as IEC 62304, DO-178C, or ISO 26262.
- Demonstrated experience owning architecture-level decisions for a software platform or framework, not just contributing to one someone else designed.
- Experience with test-driven development and establishing test practices for a team
Skills:
- Deep proficiency in C++ and real-time or embedded software design.
- Track record of writing architectural documentation that survives audits and new-hire onboarding.
- Experience defining APIs and abstractions that other engineering teams build on top of.
- Ability to interpret technical requirements into tangible results.
- Ability to champion quality, reliability, and robust developer experience through the framework that you create.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience contributing to design history files, risk documentation, or equivalent regulatory artifacts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Direct experience supporting a 510(k) or PMA submission.
- Familiarity with robotic systems and computing hardware, embedded Linux, real-time OS, sensor/actuator interfaces.
- Start-up or early-stage company experience.
- Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS2)
- Prior experience mentoring engineers or building out a platform engineering function from…
