Overview
GENERAL
SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, performs clerical and technological library tasks according to established procedures. Work may be performed in one or more activities, involving public service, assisting the public in the use of digital technology, clerical work, library materials preparation, and arrangement.
- Public service to patrons in person, by telephone or letter/notice
- Check books in and out
- Register patrons for library cards
- Patron orientation
- Answer the telephone
- Collect fees
- Operate the computerized library system
- Receiving and handling complaints/problems
- Notify holders of overdue materials
- Work with patrons in using projectors, sound equipment, cameras, and other digital media
- Work with patrons to instruct in the use of digital equipment as well as troubleshooting the equipment as needed
- Use and troubleshoot laptop computers and multiple different tablet models, including knowledge of the operating systems of Windows and Mac platforms
- Teach patrons to use wireless devices and help them connect to the library’s Wi-Fi, as well as troubleshoot CSPL and patron personal devices relating to connectivity
- Use, troubleshoot, and assist patrons with creative equipment, such as sewing machines, jewelry makers, button makers, press printers, etc.
- Office work may include processing, typing, data entry, word processing, recording and file maintenance routines associated with patron files; notices of overdue library materials; patron registration and library cards; sorting and routing of library mail and newspapers; preparing letters and reports; basic bookkeeping; inventory; and operating a cash register.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Digital Technology - Knowledge of and experience with computers and computer software, particularly digital technology; ability to operate the computerized library catalog; check materials in and out; run reports.
Problem Solving – Ability to receive and handle complaints and problems from both internal and external customers.
Customer Service - Ability to relate to, work pleasantly with and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
Confidentiality - Ability to treat information with confidentiality.
Productivity - Ability to work independently, without constant supervision, to remain focused, and to be self-motivated.

Minimum QualificationsCustomer service experience;
Experience using computers for clerical activities such as data entry, word processing and preparing spreadsheets; experience with digital technology across multiple platforms;
Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent;
or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the essential knowledge, skills and abilities.
Experience in a Library setting.
Employee may work variable hours including evenings and weekends, approximately 20 hours per week.
Working ConditionsDuties require extensive sitting and keyboarding at a computer terminal; standing, walking, crouching, squatting, climbing stairs, and lifting; bending and stooping; lifting and carrying boxes or other objects weighing up to 25-30 lbs. each; and pushing carts weighing up to 50 pounds each. Work is performed in a library setting.
