The Telegraph Herald, an employee‑owned daily newspaper with a Sunday circulation of 25,000, seeks a talented regional reporter to join our news team. Be part of a hard‑working, aggressive newsroom working to produce the best newspaper in the state, both in print and online.
Overall Responsibilities- Receive, prepare and input features information and stories within the newspaper and online, as well as magazines and specialty publications, as assigned.
- Writes previews, briefs, live and feature content within assigned topical areas, coordinating with supervisors and peers.
- Maintains contact with sources in assigned topical area(s).
- Meets deadlines.
- Assists on assigned weekend shifts for live coverage for news and features, as scheduled.
- Adheres to company and departmental policies.
- Adheres to standard practices and ethical standards of the industry.
- Positive representative of department, company and industry at all times.
- Provides quality customer service via phone, email and face‑to‑face interaction to both internal and external customers.
- Communicates information to the appropriate individuals and/or departments in a timely manner, such as news tips, source suggestions or real or potential customer‑relations issues.
- Works in cooperation with all members of company in general and Editorial Department in particular.
- Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
Knowledge: Typing, spelling, grammar, basic mathematics and solid working computer knowledge. Ability to work effectively and efficiently, especially within the confines of a deadline and without continual supervision. Communicate effectively and courteously using the telephone, email, computer, or in person.
Skills: Reporting, interviewing, writing, multi‑media, typing, using electronic media, communicating and meeting deadlines. Valid driver’s license. Proficient in English language.
