Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of master's degree in school administration
- Qualifications and certification as set by the code of Iowa and the Iowa Dept. of Education
- Previous experience as teacher or administrator
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may accept
- To provide leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills that will promote the educational development of each student attending Dubuque Senior High School
- To work closely and collaboratively as a member of the Leadership Team of the Dubuque Community District
- To collaborate with Senior staff and families and with the larger Dubuque community to enhance educational program and learning opportunities for Senior students
- To successfully reach the Iowa Standards for School Leaders
- Develop, advocate, and enact a shared vision
- Promote high expectations for teaching and student learning and behavior
- Align educational programs, plans, and actions with the district's vision for student learning
- Develop communication strategies to inform stakeholders of progress toward the vision of the district
- Demonstrate ethical, trustworthy, and professional behavior that inspires others to higher levels of performance
- Confront and alter institutional biases of student marginalization, deficit-based schooling, and low expectations associated with race, class, culture, language, gender and sexual orientation, and disability
- Demonstrate appreciation and respect for the full range of diversity in the school community
- Ensure intellectually rigorous and coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to promote each student's academic success and well-being
- Recruit, interview, and recommend teachers and staff to support quality instruction
- Provide leadership, encouragement, opportunities, and structure for all staff to continually design more effective teaching and learning experiences for all students
- Evaluate staff ensuring each student has equitable access to effective teachers, learning opportunities, academic and social support
- Cultivate an inclusive, caring, and supportive school community that promotes the academic success and well-being of each student
- Recognize and respect each student's strengths and culture as assets while ensuring each student is treated fairly and respectfully given each student's culture and context
- Develop the professional capacity and practice of school personnel to promote each student's academic success and well-being
- Serve as an effective spokesperson for the welfare of all members of the learning community
- Engage in dialogue with other decision-makers to improve teaching and learning
- Lead in the development of, know, and support the school improvement plan and accurately interpret and report progress on goals
- Engage families and the community in meaningful, reciprocal, and mutually beneficial ways to promote each student's academic success and well-being
- Engage the community to create shared responsibility for student and school success
- Promote and support parent/student/community involvement in the school
- Connect students and families to the health, human and social services they need to stay focused on learning
- Design and manage operational procedures to maximize opportunities for successful learning
- Effectively manage board policies and procedures
- Demonstrate effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
- Manage fiscal resources of the school responsibly, efficiently, and effectively
- Act with cultural competence and responsiveness in interactions, decision making, and practice
- Share leadership and decision-making
- Act as lead agent of continuous improvement to promote each student's academic success and well-being
231 day contract beginning July 2026, or as agreed. Salary competitive and commensurate with education and experience. An attractive fringe benefit package is included.
