188 day contract, plus 8 holidays; 7.0 hrs/day; $42,573 per year.

Title

Educational Interpreter

Basic Function

Works with students, teachers, and other building staff members to assist in the delivery of the educational program.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of an Interpreter Training Program.
  • Licensed Interpreter in the State of Iowa.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience interpreting in the school setting.
  • Experience working with children.

    Special Education Director, Building Administrator(s), Special Education Facilitator, Staff, and AEA Personnel
Position Responsibilities
  • Facilitate all communication in a variety of environments including announcements, discussions, assemblies, playground, lunchroom, etc.
  • Participate as a member of the educational team.
  • Advocate for the student in the school setting to provide equal access to educational benefits.
  • Participate in student educational‑related activities when needed.
  • Collaborate with educational staff and report concerns to the appropriate individual.
  • Communicate with the student's teacher(s) and support service providers to facilitate educational interpreting services.
  • Provide input and feedback to supervising teacher as requested.
  • Support guided practice or monitor educational program as directed.
  • Assist with provisions of accommodations for students.
  • Meet the daily-care student needs, including, but not limited to, lifting, repositioning, diapering, toileting, restraining, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Assist teacher in computer entry of data and the application of technology.
  • Maintain effective discipline based on the policies and guidelines of the District.
  • Explain the role of an educational interpreter.
  • Abide by and support the IEP document and related recommendations.
  • Follow directions of the building administrators and teachers.
  • Attend all appropriate meetings.
  • Demonstrate an interest in self‑improvement in interpreting by attending workshops, seminars, and staff development sessions when available.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in the workplace and in the community.
  • Exercise maturity and sound judgment in decision making.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Recognize and demonstrate a commitment to multicultural non‑sexist policies and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
