Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Purpose of the Position
Delivers a planned maintenance system that drives stability through to the prediction of equipment life. Leads, motivates and develops a technical team of Mechanics, Technicians and Maintenance Planners to drive losses out of our systems, create consistent standard approaches and achieve production results while improving individual skills and enhancing teamwork.
Essential Position Responsibilities- Establishes maintenance schedules and determines proper setup and layout of work to simplify plant operations and reduce downtime. Directs mechanical repair, evaluates mechanical and electrical malfunctions, and recommends appropriate action. Performs problem analysis and develops conceptual solutions, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Works closely with the management team to develop new processes and methods, drives consistency and standards in the Planner/Scheduler team, and fosters a culture of innovation and cooperation with all department managers. May interact with engineers and vendors.
- Develops and manages the maintenance budget for maintenance and repair operations as well as capital expense projects.
- Directs the scheduling, planning and coordination of major equipment installations. Oversees maintenance projects and coordinates outside contractors. Prepares AFEs, including justification, cost estimates, drawings, and tracks them to keep projects on budget.
- Utilizes and implements a work order system for planning and scheduling mechanics’ daily tasks, weekly Preventative Maintenance schedule, and for tracking all work performed back to the equipment asset history. Develops and delivers standard methods and procedures in Maintenance and Reliability to achieve consistent results.
- Provides technical leadership for the evolution from reactive to proactive maintenance, coordinates tracking and reporting of reliability/maintenance KPIs, and develops new processes driven by KPI data to improve maintenance programs.
- Manages employees: directs and supervises work activities, monitors performance, collaborates with HR to screen, interview and hire candidates, administers disciplinary actions, recommends performance improvement actions and compensation decisions, and promotes a cooperative environment in line with Simmons values.
- Participates as a member of the team: contributes to development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices; attends team meetings; fosters cohesion on major issues and resolves gaps proactively.
- Performs other duties as necessary to support business objectives.
Familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN). Understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with these systems, considers the impact of individual actions on the systems, and communicates concerns and improvement ideas.
Physical ActivitiesEnter and locate information on a computer; visually verify information in small print; communicate with customers, vendors or employees via telephone, in person and/or electronic mail; present information to small or large groups; work in various temperatures; move around a manufacturing environment and surrounding property including climbing stairs; travel by car or plane to various work locations; lift up to 50 lbs.

Technical ExperienceMinimum 5 years in maintenance plus 2 years manager level experience. Demonstrates and shares knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical safety and preventative maintenance programs. Computer skills include a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Industry ExperiencePreference for leadership experience in a food manufacturing environment or other applicable experience.
Minimum EducationBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering and/or 4 years related maintenance experience.
