Mercy One Dubuque is the leading hospital in the tri‑states, offering the only comprehensive cardiology centre and Level II regional neonatal intensive care unit in the area, as well as the newly constructed Mercy One Dubuque Cancer Centre. Other services include a trauma centre, a CARF‑accredited inpatient rehabilitation unit, orthopaedics, retail pharmacies, palliative care and a wide range of outpatient and community services.

Mercy One operates two hospital‑based skilled nursing units and a 40‑bed nursing home. In recognition of its nursing service and overall quality of patient care, Mercy One Dubuque has been designated a Magnet hospital four consecutive times – the nation’s most prestigious award for nursing excellence.

We are looking to hire a Housekeeper! As a housekeeper at Mercy One, you will be responsible for a clean and safe environment within the facility by following routine cleaning procedures.

• Maintain clean patient rooms and discharge units to meet hospital standards: empties trash and linen containers, high dusts, damp mop, cleans bathroom, cleans/makes bed, damp wipes all horizontal surfaces including clean over‑bed table, and checks own work.
• Maintain clean office/ancillary areas. Audits are done frequently for quality control.
• Possess knowledge of and differentiate between isolation types. Perform special isolation cleaning according to established procedures as required.
• Maintain a clean cart, equipment, and janitor closet/storage areas.
• Replenish supplies of soap, tissues, towels, disposable items and other items as needed.
• Report the need for repair of equipment, furniture, building, and fixtures to the appropriate person.

• 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm; every other weekend and holiday rotation.

• Previous janitorial and cleaning experience preferred; some hospital experience desirable but not mandatory.
• Must become familiar with use and care of housekeeping chemicals and equipment.
• Must be able to work with and accept varying demands of patients, the public, and other employees.
• Able to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with all members of the health care team.
• Interacts with hospital staff, patients and public contacts in a cordial, courteous and helpful manner. Exercise tact and diplomacy.

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
