Job Purpose:

The Interpreter at Crescent Community Health Center will facilitate effective communication between healthcare providers and patients who speak Spanish or Marshallese, ensuring accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation in both medical and community settings. The role is essential in bridging language barriers to enhance patient care and understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide interpretation services for patients and healthcare professionals in a variety of settings, including community health centers, hospitals, and public health environments. Translate medical terminology and healthcare information accurately between English and the assigned language, ensuring clarity and understanding for all parties involved. Assist in the preparation of written translations of medical documents, patient education materials, and other healthcare-related content. Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure culturally appropriate communication and to support the needs of diverse populations.

Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interpreting practices. Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance interpreting skills and knowledge of medical terminology. Support the health center's mission to provide accessible and equitable healthcare services to the community.

Required

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Required Experience:

Demonstrated proficiency in interpreting between English and the assigned language, either Spanish or Marshallese.

Preferred Experience:

One (1) year of professional interpreting experience in a healthcare, social services, educational, or community setting preferred. Required

Skills and Abilities:

Must be fluent in writing, speaking, and listening in assigned language - either Spanish or Marshallese as well as English. Ability to accurately convey meaning and context in both languages. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with diverse populations. Preferred

Skills and Abilities:

Experience interpreting in a community health center, hospital, behavioral health, or public health setting. Knowledge of medical terminology in both English and the target language. Experience working with culturally diverse populations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in interpreting.
