Our client, a growing privately held distribution company along the eastern border of Iowa, is looking to add a new Director of Planning & Distribution to their team. Reporting to the VP of Supply Chain, the Director of Planning & Distribution is responsible for managing the demand planning, inventory planning, distribution, and transportation activities for the organization. This will involve the development and implementation of an end-to-end planning and inventory management organization and process.
This also involves implementing best practices and continuous improvement processes for distribution and transportation. In addition, this position will understand our retail locations business with the objective of developing strategies that meet their current and future planning and distribution needs.
- Develop and implement an end-to-end planning and inventory management process.
- Build and manage a world-class planning and distribution organization.
- Execute planning strategies to deliver value to the organization.
- Manage the organization’s distribution and transportation activities.
- Optimize the existing distribution center in accordance with overall company strategy.
- Collaborate with all parts of the organization to ensure the retail locations have an uninterrupted supply of products and materials.
- Develop and report KPIs related to planning and distribution best practices.
- Develop an understanding of our retail locations businesses and their objectives to develop planning and distribution strategies that meet the current and future needs.
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight to the overall Supply Chain department and personnel, ensuring efficient operations and alignment with organizational goals.
- Travel to yard locations to engage the general managers of each location in the mission and value of the corporate planning and distribution function.
- 7+ years of Supply Chain Planning and Distribution related experience preferably in the lumber or building materials industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or related area of study; experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Proven leadership and influence through active participation and facilitation of demand planning initiatives, inventory management and optimization, distribution operations, and transportation activities.
- Documented skills in strategic planning, management, and execution of cost reduction strategies.
- Ability to translate long-term strategic plans into tactical execution plans.
- Proven capability to establish good relationships and contribute in a team environment.
- In-depth understanding of commodities and documented success in cost savings and improved service across multiple sites.
- Detail-oriented & thorough, with ability to think “big picture" and understand the key trends and levers that drive the business.
- High-level negotiation, analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- 4+ years of managerial experience with a proven ability to mentor teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
