The Palletizer, Bagger, and Entry Level Equipment Operator roles serve a key function in the operation and ongoing maintenance of the high‑speed manufacturing equipment that produces metal cans and ends at our Dubuque, Iowa manufacturing location.
Duties and Responsibilities- Operate the automatic can palletizer—including inserting separator sheets between layers of cans and placing top frames on completed pallets.
- Sort and inspect cans, print pallet tickets, and perform quality checks.
- Keep the work area clean and organized; perform minor tasks as directed by the line maintainer.
- Support the line maintainer in operating the production lines when qualified.
- Assist in preparing, loading, and feeding metal coils when requested.
- Remove jams as they occur on the production lines.
- Perform visual inspection of finished cans and ends for obvious defects and record this information.
- Assist in removing metal dies and lubricating when needed.
- Replace and re‑align cans as necessary.
- Operate automatic bulk packing machinery to load/unload various sizes of cans onto pallets.
- Remove old from packing material and apply correct .
- Maintain the numeric sequence of pallets of cans and ends.
- Observe and practice company safety rules and SOPs at all times.
- Maintain the flow of finished product as required.
- Communicate all pertinent information between departments, peers, and shifts regarding equipment changes, production schedules, or problems.
- Work with employees to identify, discuss solutions, and implement “fixes” on machinery and equipment problems.
- Perform other job‑related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Education/GED or equivalent preferred.
- One or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Vocational or technical certification would be a plus.
- Experience in the high‑speed packaging industry.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Think creatively and strategically to solve problems.
- Excellent time management and project management skills; ability to multitask.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven math and computer skills; working knowledge of Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- May lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on occasion.
- Specific vision abilities required; close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- The majority of work will be in a plant environment but may require movement between parts of the manufacturing floor.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic in the plant.
- Exposure to a wide range of temperatures.
- Noise level can be frequently loud.
