Role Description

The Assistant Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Dubuque, IA, supporting the daily operations of a Salvation Army location. This role assists in supervising staff, coordinating schedules, and ensuring that services and programs are delivered efficiently and in alignment with organizational standards. The Assistant Manager helps oversee customer and client service, supports production and maintains a safe, orderly environment for employees and visitors.

The role also includes preparing basic reports, assisting with compliance and policy adherence, and collaborating with leadership to implement program improvements and community outreach initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Ability to supervise staff, coordinate workflows, and support a positive, inclusive team culture.
  • Experience in customer or client service, with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to respectful, non-discriminatory interactions.
  • Organizational and time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, maintain records, and meet deadlines.
  • Basic administrative and computer skills, such as proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and data entry.
  • Ability to follow established policies, support safety and compliance standards, and uphold The Salvation Army's mission and values.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with staff, volunteers, clients, and community partners.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education or training in social services, management, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Previous experience in a social services, nonprofit, retail, or community-based setting is preferred.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Dubuque, IA, with flexibility for occasional evening and weekend hours as needs require.
