The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with radiation oncologists, nurses, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care for patients undergoing radiation therapy. While prior radiation oncology or oncology experience is preferred, we welcome strong NPs from other specialties who are eager to learn and grow into the role.
This position offers a unique opportunity to gain specialized expertise in radiation oncology while practicing at the top of your license in a supportive, academically-minded clinical environment.
Responsibilities- Conduct new patient evaluations and follow-up visits under physician supervision
- Perform on-treatment visits (OTVs) to assess treatment tolerance, manage acute toxicities, and provide supportive care
- Manage common radiation-related symptoms (e.g., skin reactions, fatigue, mucositis, GI/GU side effects)
- Provide patient education on treatment expectations, side-effect management, and survivorship care
- Coordinate care with medical oncology, surgery, nursing, and ancillary services
- Participate in survivorship visits and long-term follow-up care
- Contribute to clinical documentation, care pathways, and quality improvement initiatives
- Support patient navigation and continuity of care across multiple clinic sites as needed
- Prior experience in oncology, radiation oncology, hematology/oncology, internal medicine, hospital medicine, or surgical subspecialties
- Comfort managing complex, medically ill patients
- Experience in outpatient clinic workflows
- Strong clinical assessment and triage skills
- Experience managing treatment-related side effects and symptom control
- Familiarity with EMRs (e.g., Epic, Mosaiq, Aria, or similar)
- Excellent patient communication and counseling skills
- Interest in clinical protocols, care standardization, and quality improvement
- Ability to work across multiple clinical sites and collaborate with diverse teams
- Active Nurse Practitioner license in the practicing state(s):
Iowa - National board certification (AANP or ANCC)
- DEA license (or ability to obtain)
- Eligible for credentialing at partner facilities
- New graduates with strong clinical training and interest in oncology may be considered
