Position Summary

The University Dispatcher plays a vital role in maintaining campussafety by serving as the central communication hub for the Department of Safety and Security. This position is responsible for receiving and coordinating responses to emergency and non-emergency calls, managing radio and telephone communications, and dispatchingsecurity personnel to incidents across campus. The Dispatcher alsomonitors and maintains detailed records, manages access requeststhrough the University's controlled access system, and mayoccasionally perform foot patrols or fill in for security officersas needed.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Answer emergency and non-emergency calls promptly and professionally, gathering and documenting critical information for appropriate response
  • Respond to any issues and follow-up by coordinating with the appropriate departments or officers
  • Operate and manage a multi-line telephone system
  • Use the radio, phone, or computer to direct officers to the appropriate sites
  • Prioritize and organize calls according to urgency
  • Maintain and update call logs, call records and other importantdocumentation
  • Update requests for access from various departments through thecontrolled access program
  • Fill-in as a security officer including foot patrol
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University's Mission
Skills and Abilities
  • Must be detail orientated and accurate
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Quick decision-making skills
  • Prior experience working with phone systems, computers,surveillance cameras, and portable radios
  • Calm and professional demeanor under pressure, especially during emergencies or high-stress situations
  • Ability to remain seated at a workstation for extended periodsof time
  • Ability to walk and climb stairs for foot patrol
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of basic security and fire inspection procedures is preferred

This is a 1st shift position from 7am-3pm Tuesday-Saturday.
