Internship Accounting, Data Analytics, Economics & Finance

Ryan & Wetmore, PC is seeking Accounting Interns for Spring 2027 (January-April) for our offices in Bethesda MD, Vienna VA, and Frederick MD
. Interns are part-time employees and are expected to work roughly 20 hours per week. In this role, you will work across multiple industries on engagements in tax, attest, and accounting, with clients from entrepreneurs to growing businesses. This position offers hands‑on experience and the opportunity to develop expertise in areas such as tax strategy, audit & assurance, and client accounting services.

  • The intern experience at Ryan & Wetmore is built upon each intern’s areas of interest in accounting, consulting, and tax. We work with interns to develop both professional goals for the internship, striving to provide a meaningful and practical experience.
  • Interns begin their time with Ryan & Wetmore by receiving basic training on the IT systems and software used for accounting and assurance engagements, tax return preparation, researching, and timekeeping. After gaining an understanding of how the office functions, interns begin working on accounting and other tasks. Internships include some administrative duties, such as scanning and saving pertinent client-related information.

POSITION

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform audit procedures, over cash, A/R, inventories property and equipment, prepaid, A/P, accrued expenses, debt and general income statement accounts in client financial statements and propose adjusting journal entries when needed
  • Review accounting transactions and consider appropriate application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Prepare financial statement footnotes (on areas audited) and internal control observations and recommendations
  • Research fundamental issues using online tools
  • Meet client service expectations by adhering to time budgets, maintaining positive communications, and delivering highest level of customer service to clients, including those at the executive level
  • Perform other duties as needed on engagements and as assigned by supervisory personnel
  • Gain an understanding of firm policies, procedures, and professional standards through observation and inquiry, and adhere to them
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards the firm and profession, and represent the firm in a favorable and professional manner
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Pursuing an Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field with an anticipated graduation date no later than May 2028
  • Have completed minimum 90 credit hours towards B.A. / B.S. degree or equivalent from accredited university
  • Have a desire to obtain a CPA license
  • Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise internally with firm leadership, and externally with clients
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and adaptability skills to manage multiple projects at a time, completing tasks on time to meet internal and external deadlines
  • Basic research skills and understanding of accounting related terms and practices (e.g. the concept of billable hours, client confidentiality, professional ethics, AICPA & state societies)
  • Integrity, dependability, and trustworthiness
  • Sharp analytical skills and a commitment to professional development
  • Preferred: related work or internship experience in accounting and/or client‑facing roles
  • Desire to work closely with Partners and clients to provide exceptional service
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of firm and client information
  • Experience working with a team to meet deliverables and ability to thrive and adapt in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to work remotely and at 1 of the 3 office locations:
    Bethesda MD, Frederick MD, or Vienna VA
