Smart Design is looking for a visual design intern!

Visual Designers at Smart create more than just the pretty face on the screen. They are rooted in strategic brand understanding, and have the ability to bring the client’s brand experience to life, regardless of the medium. They are responsible for the overall expression of a user experience and do this by defining a design language that’s not only meaningful to users, but authentic to its brand.

Visual designers are comfortable working with researchers, interaction designers and technologists on projects for clients ranging from fast-growing startups to some of the most recognized brands in mobile, consumer electronics, healthcare and financial services. Visual designers and interns also have the opportunity to support our own brand marketing efforts. Oh, and they know that we talk about “users” what we really mean is “real people.”

Our office is based out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn NY. Interns must be onsite a minimum of three days per week, Tuesday to Thursday, and possibly more as projects require. Intern rates depend on educational level and will fall between $20-24/hour ($20 working toward undergrad degree, $22/undergrad degree, $24/working towards or has masters).

• A bachelor’s degree in visual/graphic design/brand communication (or a related field)
• At least 1 other internship designing cross-platform visual systems, particularly mobile (iOS, Android) and web other devices
• Some experience with packaging and print work
• Experience creating brand guidelines and style guides
• Impressive skills in visual storytelling, ideation and sketching, visual interface design, and data visualization
• Familiarity with Adobe design tools including Illustrator; experience with Figma and/or after effects a plus
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
