Internship Exploring General Business & Beyond
Reporting directly to the Principal Librarian, this internship provides a strong knowledge base in all aspects of music preparation (covering standard symphonic repertoire as well as Pops, Educational, Choral, Opera, and Ballet) and in working cross-departmentally to execute concerts at the highest level. This is an ideal experience for someone pursuing a career in Performance Librarianship.
Duties and Responsibilities- Start-to-finish concert prep, including: sourcing pieces/editions; editing and proofing parts; adding measure numbers or rehearsal letters; marking cuts or preparing inserts; transferring bowings; fixing page turns, photocopying, and scanning; preparing and breaking down orchestra folders.
- Communication with colleagues in other departments and in the orchestra.
- Contribute to the CSO’s vision to be the most relevant orchestra in America.
- Represent the organization’s values in your work.
- Attend professional development sessions.
- Rehearsal and concert duty.
- Other duties as assigned.
The internship will include required mentoring, group project, and professional development sessions such as resume review, career coaching, etc. Additional library mentoring will include:
- OPAS training;
- Photoshop tutorials; and
- Practice Auditions/Interviews.
The internship begins in September 2026 and concludes at the end of May 2027. Interns will have some flexibility in setting their hours, but are required to have the ability to commit to a minimum of 12 hours per week and up to a maximum of 20 hours per week. The intern will be expected to have occasional availability on nights and weekends to work rehearsals, concerts, and special events.
InterviewsOnsite interviews will begin early July 2026 and conclude early August 2026.
Candidate Requirements- College Junior, Senior, Graduate Student, or those who recently graduated with an expressed interest in Librarianship.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Knowledge of classical and/or choral music.
- Music preparation experience.
- Strong interest in a career in performance librarianship.
