Title:

Assistant Principal, Shepherd Hill Regional High School

Essential functions:

The assistant principal shall be an educational leader and manager of the school and shall supervise the operation and management of the school and school property, subject to the supervision and direction of the principal. (See M.G.L. c. 71, §59B.) The assistant principal shall perform faithfully, diligently and competently the duties of a public school assistant principal. The assistant principal hereby agrees to perform his/her duties in accordance with the policies of the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District, provided that except as required by law no amendment to such policies subsequent to signing of this contract shall impair the district's contractual obligations hereunder.

Qualifications:

Master's degree or higher, appropriate licensure, Massachusetts Dept. of Education.

Responsibilities:
At his/her assigned school and in accordance with the provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws and applicable regulations, the administrator's duties shall include:

A.Administer curriculum and instruction of the students enrolled in his/her school.

B. Advise and assist the principal in recruiting and appointing regarding the following:

Teaching Staff and Paraprofessionals

Other Professional Staff

All Non-Professional Staff

Other resource and service personnel,while functioning in the assigned school.

C. Assist the principal as to supervision and oversight, in accordance with their right to due process, all of the above staff while they are employed at the assigned school in the following areas:

1. Discipline

2. Assignment

3. Promotion

4. Evaluation

5. Suspension

6. Demotion

7. Termination

D. Assist in the supervision and operational management of school personnel, facilities and property.

E. Manage, operate and evaluate educational programs and services.

F. Provide for the implementation and observance, by the school's staff and students, of all school committee policies and regulations.

G. Inform the principal on a continuing basis concerning the school's activities and problems and wherever appropriate, make recommendations for the improvement or solution.

H. Serve as a liaison between principal and staff and assist the principal in the adoption and implementation of a Professional Development Plan for all teachers and other professional staff.

I. Bear primary responsibility for initiation and submission of applications for, and subsequent management, supervision and administration of, local, state and federal grants subject to the direction of the principal and superintendent

J. Communicate with and inform the general community on the development, the needs, and the accomplishments of the school.

K. Organize informational meetings with parents, e.g., open house, parent conferences, orientation, etc.

L. Utilize community resources that will assist in developing highly effective educational programs.

M. Administer and oversee the attendance, conduct, health and safety of all students in accordance with their rights of due process.

N. Subject to the direction of the principal, purchase textbooks and other school supplies for use in the assigned school.

O. Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in school.

P. Serve as the principal in the absence of the building principal.

Q. Assist the principal in supervision and evaluation of the work of all non-teaching employees, including custodians, cafeteria personnel and general office workers.

R. Assist the principal in development of a School Improvement Plan, in accordance with the provisions of the Massachusetts Education Reform Act of 1993.

S. Other duties as may be necessary to the safe and efficient operation of the school as assigned by the principal.
