Description:
ESY Teachers are responsible for overseeing and facilitating all student services and supports as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Special Education Teachers develop accommodations and modifications to make material accessible and foster student growth across all areas, progress monitoring accordingly. Their duties ultimately include identifying student strengths and needs to create a nurturing learning environment throughout their ESY experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement student IEP goals and progress monitoring
- Consistently implement behavioral plans and positive supports for students as necessary
- Developing and maintaining daily classroom routines and schedules
- Assist students in all aspects of daily programming including, but not limited to: social, academic, behavioral, and personal care growth and development
- Provide direct supervision and care to ensure the safety and well-being of all students within the classroom
- Manage and delegate duties to the assistant teacher and other classroom support staff, both internal and external
- Collaborate with teacher mentor, related service providers, and parents
- Maintain daily parent communication
- Model and maintain appropriate behavioral expectations across all environments, including but not limited to: conversation and social engagement, clean-up and self-care activities, listening, and everyday interactions for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner
- Maintain clean classroom equipment and work area
- Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Attend weekly all staff meetings
- Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of classroom function.
Qualifications:
- PA teaching certification with Department of Education
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in field of education
- Knowledge of behavioral modification strategies and positive supports strongly desired
- Knowledge of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) based interventions preferred
- Classroom and teaching experience preferred
- The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organizational and collaboration skills, and demonstrated ability to build relationships with students, staff, and parents. They are passionate, creative, and flexible!
Working Conditions: Educational and Recreational atmosphere, in both indoor and outdoor settings. Exposure to body fluids, noises, and disagreeable odors.
Physical Conditions: Work type varies with short periods of standing, walking, moving, swimming, and light to moderate lifting.
