Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and skilled Part-Time Student Support Specialist to work one-on-one with a student with diverse learning and social-emotional needs. This role focuses on building skills while intentionally supporting the student’s independence, stamina, and confidence across academic and social settings. During the school day, the specialist will support classroom engagement, functional behaviors, and learning endurance. In the afternoons, the focus shifts to fostering positive peer relationships, social skills, and healthy communication.

This position works closely with teachers, therapists, and school staff to ensure consistency and growth across environments.

Schedule

Part-Time-25 hours per week

Monday/Tuesday/Thursday from 8:30 am - 1:30 pm

Wednesday/Fridays from 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Hours vary based on student needs, school, and programming.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support during the school day to build academic stamina, focus, and appropriate classroom behaviors
  • Support the development of independence while offering scaffolding as needed
  • Assist with transitions, emotional regulation, and task initiation
  • Support the student in building and maintaining positive peer relationships
  • Model and reinforce healthy social skills and communication
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and staff to align strategies and goals
  • Track progress and communicate observations with the team
  • Maintain a supportive, respectful, and strengths-based approach
  • Complete and maintain all required trainings
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning, behavioral, or social-emotional needs (education, behavioral health, or related field preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to balance support with encouraging independence
  • Calm, patient, and flexible in dynamic environments
  • Ability to follow individualized support plans and adapt strategies as needed
