Bosco Catholic School System Counselor

Bosco Catholic School System is seeking a student-centered, organized, and relationship-driven School Counselor to support students in their academic, college, career, and personal development. This position plays a key role in helping students successfully navigate high school while building a strong foundation for future success through college, career, and life readiness planning.

Position Summary:

The School Counselor serves as a consistent source of support and guidance for students as they work toward their future goals. This role focuses heavily on college and career readiness, academic planning, student support, and collaboration with staff and families to ensure students are prepared for postsecondary success.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, collaborative, and committed to supporting students in a faith-centered school environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead postsecondary planning efforts for high school students
  • Support students in developing clear and realistic plans for college, trades, military, or workforce pathways
  • Coordinate communication related to college applications, scholarships, and FAFSA completion
  • Build and maintain relationships with community and educational partners such as Hawkeye Community College and the Waterloo Career Center
  • Coordinate student participation in dual enrollment and career center programming
  • Ensure students are properly enrolled, scheduled, and supported in postsecondary opportunities
Testing & Academic Planning
  • Coordinate registration and logistics for assessments including ACT, Accuplacer, and AP testing
  • Support student course selection aligned to graduation requirements and future goals
  • Collaborate with administration and staff on scheduling and academic pathways
  • Monitor graduation requirements and student progress toward completion
Academic Monitoring & Student Support
  • Monitor student progress toward graduation and postsecondary readiness
  • Identify students who may be at risk academically or socially and collaborate with MTSS/SST teams
  • Assist in coordinating interventions and support plans with school staff
  • Provide short-term, solution-focused support for students related to school success
  • Assist students with organization, goal setting, problem-solving, and future planning
  • Collaborate with K–8 staff and support systems to strengthen school wide student development initiatives
  • Support student transitions between grade levels and buildings
  • Assist with preventative and developmental student support opportunities
  • Build positive relationships with younger students through classroom presence, small groups, or school wide initiatives
  • Help strengthen long-term college, career, and life readiness beginning at earlier grade levels
  • Collaborate with teachers, administration, support staff, and families to support student success
  • Participate in team discussions regarding student needs and next steps
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and planning
  • Keep administration informed of situations impacting student success or safety
  • Participate as part of a coordinated team response during crisis or high-need situations
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in School Counseling, Education, or related field
