Pay Rate: $25–$35/hour (based on experience)

Are you passionate about American Sign Language and excited to help students discover a new way to communicate?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dependable American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor to lead engaging after-school classes this fall. This enrichment program introduces students to the fundamentals of ASL and Deaf culture through interactive, hands‑on lessons that build communication skills, confidence, and cultural awareness.

Students will learn essential signs, everyday vocabulary, finger spelling, basic conversational skills, facial expressions, and the importance of nonverbal communication. Through games, storytelling, interactive activities, and collaborative learning, students will develop a strong foundation while gaining an appreciation for Deaf culture and inclusive communication.

Whether you’re fluent in ASL, a heritage signer, an interpreter, Deaf Studies student, educator, or someone passionate about accessible communication, this is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young learners.

Curriculum guidance and teaching materials are provided so you can focus on delivering an engaging and memorable classroom experience.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead engaging ASL classes in a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Teach foundational American Sign Language vocabulary, finger spelling, conversational signs, and everyday expressions
  • Introduce students to Deaf culture, community, and the importance of inclusive communication
  • Use interactive activities, games, storytelling, and group practice to reinforce learning
  • Encourage confidence, participation, collaboration, and respectful communication
  • Adapt instruction to accommodate different learning styles and experience levels
  • Foster an inclusive classroom where every student feels comfortable learning and participating
  • Monitor student progress and provide positive feedback and encouragement
  • Maintain classroom organization and positive behavior management
  • Communicate professionally with program coordinators and school staff
  • Arrive prepared and ready to deliver an exceptional learning experience
What We’re Looking For
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (beginner-friendly teaching experience is welcome; intermediate to advanced ASL skills preferred)
  • Passion for ASL, Deaf culture, language education, and working with students
  • Strong communication and classroom leadership skills
  • Patient, reliable, enthusiastic, and professional attitude
  • Ability to create an engaging, interactive, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Comfortable leading group instruction and encouraging student participation
  • Prior teaching, tutoring, mentoring, camp, or youth program experience is a plus but not required
  • Background in ASL, Deaf Studies, Education, Linguistics, Communication, or related fields is highly encouraged
