August Winter & Sons is a leading mechanical contractor serving Northeast Wisconsin for over 95 years. We specialize in heating, cooling, plumbing, and process systems for commercial, healthcare, and industrial markets. Our summer internship program offers students the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in both office design and field settings, working alongside experienced professionals.

About the Internship

As a virtual design intern, you’ll collaborate with engineers and virtual design specialists on a variety of projects. You’ll gain valuable experience on design, layout, and coordination of mechanical systems, involving heating, cooling, process, and plumbing.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys of existing buildings and systems.
  • Develop 3D models from field sketches, laser scans, and engineered drawings for mechanical systems, including hydronic, plumbing, and air distribution.
  • Collaborate with virtual designers and engineers to create constructible 3D models that meet design intent and optimize field installation.
  • Generate detail drawings for fabrication and field installation from mechanical models.
  • Coordinate mechanical models with architectural, structural, and other trades to resolve conflicts.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a technical degree in a mechanical design / architectural technology program.
  • GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with BIM and modeling software (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Excellent visualization skills of concepts from 2D to 3D.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask when required.
