Internship Exploring General Business & Beyond

The Idaho Tax Foundation and Associated Taxpayers of Idaho (ATI) offer a unique internship opportunity for college students interested in public policy, taxation, communications, and nonprofit leadership. Interns work directly with the organization's President and interact with the Board of Directors, members, and policymakers as part of a hands-on professional experience.

ATI is a nonpartisan, fact-finding organization that works with both government and industry to promote sound tax policy and responsible fiscal policy in Idaho. This internship provides students with valuable exposure to the intersection of business, public policy, and government while developing practical skills that apply to many career paths.

Interns have the opportunity to connect with leaders from industries across Idaho - including manufacturing, agriculture, energy, and technology - as well as government officials and policy experts. The experience offers exceptional networking opportunities and insight into how tax and fiscal policy impacts Idaho businesses and taxpayers.

The fall internship is primarily focused on planning and coordination for the organization's Annual Conference in December. Interns assist with event logistics, communications, member outreach, and conference preparation.

The spring internship centers on the Idaho Legislative Session, where interns assist with policy research, monitoring legislation, and communications related to tax and fiscal issues being considered by the Legislature.

Internships may be completed directly through the organization or coordinated with a college or university for academic credit.

A $1,000 stipend or scholarship per semester may be available.

While students may apply for either semester, strong preference will be given to candidates who are able to participate in both the fall and spring internships, allowing the intern to gain experience with both the Annual Conference and the Idaho Legislative Session.

Intern responsibilities may include:

• Conducting policy and legislative research related to Idaho tax and fiscal issues
• Monitoring legislative activity during the Idaho Legislative Session
• Assisting with member communications, retention, and recruitment
• Updating and developing ATI publications and policy materials
• Assisting with the planning and coordination of the ATI Annual Conference and other events
• Attending meetings of the ATI Board of Directors, conference planning committees, and relevant public meetings when appropriate
• Objectively analyzing and interpreting information related to public policy issues
• Assisting staff with outreach to ATI members, businesses, and policymakers
• Supporting general organizational and administrative initiatives

• Interest in public policy, government, economics, business, communications, or related fields
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel (or Google Sheets)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
• Self-motivated and eager to learn in a professional environment

The ATI internship provides students with meaningful professional experience and exposure to Idaho’s policy and business communities. Interns gain practical skills in research, communications, event coordination, and public policy analysis while developing relationships with leaders across Idaho.
