Mental Health/Substance Abuse Clinician
QualificationsA master’s degree in psychology and registration as a limited licensed psychologist, or licensed professional counselor in Michigan or a master’s degree in social work and licensure as a social worker in Michigan is required. Have two years’ experience in providing direct services to clients in substance abuse or related human services. If recovering, at least three years of continuing sobriety.
CADC/CAADC/MCBAP certification or the willingness to submit a development plan to work towards certification as an addictions counselor is also required. Experience in the form of work or an internship is also necessary. Qualities of sincerity, empathy, and self-assurance, in addition to the ability to relate to a broad range of clients are also necessary. Good communication skills, both verbal and in writing, and good judgment in decision-making are essential.
Life experiences with diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds including experience with behavioral health issues are preferred. Must be supportive of culturally competent recovery-based practice and person-centered planning as a shared decision making process. Must support a trauma informed culture of safety to aid consumers in their recovery process.
General ResponsibilitiesThe primary function of this position is to provide mental health and/or substance abuse services to clients of the agency. This may include, but is not limited to, individual conjoint, family, and group interventions at the clinic, IOP (including SA IOP), Positive Directions, nursing home, client’s home, jail, hospital, or any other appropriate location, based on client and clinic need. This position provides the necessary service to the case, i.e. evaluation, diagnosis, intervention, case coordination, and record keeping.
Flexibility in work schedule as needed for provision of services to individual clients and their families.
This position reports to the Treatment and Outreach Services.
