The Global Languages and Communications Intern will work directly with the Global Languages Manager to support communications, social media, research, and administrative tasks related to Iowa International Center’s interpretation and translation services. This internship is a strong opportunity for a student interested in communications, multilingual services, nonprofit operations, and community engagement. The intern will help promote services, support outreach efforts, maintain records, and assist with day-to-day administrative work tied to the interpretation and translation program.
PositionDescription/Responsibilities
- Create content for social media, newsletters, and other communications materials related to interpretation and translation services
- Assist with managing social media accounts and increasing audience engagement
- Assist with research related to interpretation and translation services, community needs, and outreach opportunities
- Help maintain records, databases, spreadsheets, and other program files
- Provide administrative support for scheduling, correspondence, and general office tasks
- Assist with additional projects and communications tasks as assigned

Organization DescriptionIowa International Center (IIC) has served as a bridge between Iowa and the wider world for almost 90 years by welcoming international visitors, supporting globally engaged communities, and creating opportunities for meaningful exchange. Today, IIC provides interpretation and translation services in dozens of languages, including a 24-hour hotline that supports access to housing across the state. It also highlights outstanding individuals from Iowa’s international community who make Iowa a better place to live through the annual Passport to Prosperity Award.
In addition, IIC facilitates exchanges through programs such as the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), Open World, the Iowa Partner State Program, and university partnerships, all aimed at fostering dialogue and building lasting connections.
