Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Center’s Safety Program and Transportation.
Major
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages and directs the operation of the Center’s Safety Department.
- Provides supervision, training, assessment, and leadership for safety concerns.
- Implements and administers Center health, safety, environmental, and fire prevention/protection procedures and policies.
- Performs weekly, monthly, and quarterly environmental inspections.
- Trains Center Staff to use proper procedures in the event of a disaster and/or emergency.
- Develops emergency evacuation plans for all buildings.
- Serves as the contact person for local emergency and disaster officials.
- Conducts Center Safety Committee Meetings every month.
- Conducts investigations of accidents, injuries, and illnesses with the goal of resolution and reduction of future occurrences.
- Provides written and oral reports, briefings, or summaries to appropriate staff.
- Establishes liaison and maintains harmonious relations with local law enforcement agencies.
- Manages and administers a departmental budget and works within budgetary constraints.
- Approves requisitions for safety equipment, supplies and materials.
- Oversees inventory control and maintenance of safety equipment, supplies and materials.
- Plans, organizes and controls the use of overtime and on-call staff to ensure compliance with Center and ETR policy and procedures.

Skills and
Competencies:
- Demonstrated knowledge of management practices; proven ability to lead and support a team.
- Ability to understand, control, and track direct spending and labor budgets.
- Proven ability in developing, implementing, and managing safety and security programs.
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing workplace safety (OSHA) and security.
- Ability to conduct risk analysis, threat assessments, and protection strategies.
- Knowledge of internal investigation processes.
- Excellent student and staff interaction skills.
- Sound time management, organizational, and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proven ability to formulate, develop, implement, and administer policies and procedures related to safety policy.
- Proficient in the use of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Educational Requirements and Experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Three years’ experience in military, law enforcement, and safety and/or security management.
- Trained in OSHA Safety & Health Management Program, OSHA Electrical Standards, OSHA 30-Hour Outreach Training Program
- General Industry, OSHA Guide to Industrial Hygiene - Trained in Lead Inspector Initial Certification
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Must possess or obtain a valid commercial Driver’s License Class B with passenger endorsement within three months of hire. Acceptable driving record. Water Safety Certification.
