Live Well Grand Cities Summer 2026 Internship:
Food Systems Specialist

Position

Description:

This part-time intern, averaging twenty hours a week, will be part of the core team leading our Food Systems operations:

  • Assist the Director of Food Systems with planning, implementation (including marketing and event logistics), and assessments of current Food Systems programs,
  • Support the 2026 work of the Grow Well Grand Cities Food Council,
  • Facilitate community education opportunities, including:
    • gardening education partnerships with public school districts and other non-profit entities,
    • broad culinary education programs for individuals within the community and for specific groups, including regional businesses, non-profits, and more,
  • Identify opportunities for expanding and developing food skills curriculum, inclusive of all areas of the food system (growing, cooking, budgeting, meal planning, seed collecting, harvesting, preserving, label reading, etc.),
  • Work closely with other local community-based organizations and partners, meeting important stakeholders at all levels throughout Grand Forks and building personal and professional connections while gaining an understanding on local government and one-to-one organizing strategies.

There is an expected average of two regularly occurring hour-long meetings per week to check in with the project team and internship supervisor. These will occur at the start and the conclusion of each week to set goals and to debrief, respectively. There is flexibility to set your regular hours as best fits your personal responsibilities, and a team member will be available M‑F, 9‑4 in the office, excluding some scheduled staff holidays.

Some hours will otherwise occur at community events; therefore, some evening/weekend time could be needed. Ideally these events would be scheduled around the intern’s availability, so communication and follow-through are key.

This internship is offered in partnership with the EDC’s Intern

GF program. Additional responsibilities include weekly journal entries and bi‑weekly check‑ins with the career coach at UND’s Center for Innovation. APPLICANT MUST BE A UND STUDENT.

What we offer:

This non-benefited, independent contractor position will be paid $25.00/hourly for twenty hours a week in summer 2026, up to a total of $6,000. POSITION AVAILABLE TO CURRENT STUDENTS ONLY.

Joining the Live Well Grand Cities team offers an opportunity to not only learn more about Grand Forks but also to engage with many different people in the community and make your own impact on it. There is an option to work out of the downtown Grand Forks 701 CoWorking Space for your hours. A desk space with a coffee bar, an office key fob, access to a printer/copier, and other amenities are included within that space.

Pay periods are monthly.
