Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Girls Inc. of Chicago is seeking 15 dynamic Event Planning and Community Engagement Interns between the ages of 16‑24 years oldwho live or go to school in the Greater Grand Crossing Chicago area. The Event Planning and Community Engagement Interns will work closely with the Community Engagement Department to support the organization’s outreach, partnership‑building, and community initiatives through our Safe Spaces/Bold Leaders in Action program.
Bold Leaders in Action is a paid youth employment and leadership development program for young people ages 16–24 who live or go to school in the Greater Grand Crossing area. This youth employment opportunity will run from July 17 through December 31, 2026, providing interns with meaningful work experience, professional development, and opportunities to make a positive impact in their community.
Youth employees will develop leadership, communication, teamwork, and career readiness skills while planning and hosting safe, engaging Kickback Events for teens and young adults ages 13–24 during evenings, weekends, and school breaks. Through mentorship, hands‑on projects, and workforce training, interns will gain valuable experience in event planning, community engagement, and workplace professionalism. If you are selected as an Event Planning and Community Engagement Intern through the Bold Leaders in Action program, you will work up to 300 paid hours throughout the program.
This includes 20 hours per week during the summer and 10 hours per week during the fall and winter, while building the skills and confidence needed for future educational and career success. This role offers hands‑on experience in event planning, communications, and program support, while providing valuable insight into strategic community engagement efforts.
- Planning and coordinating community events and outreach activities.
- Support the development and distribution of promotional materials (this may include Community Engagement newsletter info and flyers) for programs and events.
- Help maintain and update contact lists and community databases.
- Attend meetings with the Community Engagement Department, community partners and stakeholders. (Take notes and prepare summaries.)
- Conduct research on community needs, trends, and partnership opportunities.
- Respond to inquiries from community members and provide information about programs and services.
- Gather feedback from participants and help evaluate engagement efforts.
- Prepare reports and summaries of engagement activities.
- Perform administrative tasks to support the Community Engagement team.
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in related discipline.
- Great written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to handle confidential information with a high level of discretion.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Flexibility, initiative, self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and follow‑through.
- Must be able to work at least 20 hours per week.
