This position will be 150 hours of work during the fall 2026 semester. The work will be on several properties around Swannanoa, NC. The land is relatively new to regenerative agriculture so the soil needs to be built with sustainable practices. The intern will have a key role in identifying what needs to be done to the soil including soil testing.
The intern will help advise the organization about what crops will grow best in which areas. The organization is planning to grow crops year round to help alleviate food insecurity in the area so they have access to a hoop house and row covers to extend the growing season. Many volunteers are involved in helping with the agriculture, so the intern will be developing procedures for volunteers to follow so that sustainable practices are followed consistently by all volunteers.
The intern does not need to know everything about regenerative and sustainable agriculture to be successful in this job, but they need to be willing to learn and grow and reach out to experts to supplement their understanding when needed.
