Position: Paid Student Mediator Internship, Investigate Consumer Fraud

Paid, Part-Time Placement for Undergraduate Students

Position Overview

Undergraduate students will serve as student mediators, handling consumer complaints, answering public inquiries, and supporting investigations into patterns of fraud or illegality.

Responsibilities
  • Mediating individual complaints filed by consumers against businesses.
  • Answering phone inquiries from the public and guiding callers to appropriate resources.
  • Maintaining and reviewing complaint files across a range of consumer issues (retail sales, mail order, credit, telemarketing, warranties, home repair, automobiles).
  • Assisting in investigations of larger fraud or illegal activity patterns.
  • Participating in training and receiving coaching from professional staff and attorneys.
Qualifications
  • Full‑time undergraduate student in good academic standing.
  • Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week during regular business hours from early August through late December.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, creative, and communication skills.
  • No prior experience required, though ability to exercise judgment and discretion is essential.
Work Conditions & Eligibility
  • In‑office work at 144 Exchange Blvd, Rochester, New York.
  • Eligible to be employed in the United States.
  • Applicants must not be starting college or university during the fall semester of 2026.
  • Preference for those able to continue working during the spring semester.
Compensation

Paid placement at an hourly rate of $16.39.
