Entitled Futures is a community based behavioral health nonprofit focused on expanding access to mental health, parenting, and family support by bringing services directly into trusted community spaces.

We are seeking college students or recent graduates who are interested in working directly with parents and caregivers of young children ages 0 to 5. This is a great opportunity for students studying psychology, social work, child development, education, public health, sociology, counseling, family studies, or related fields.

Parent and Family Engagement Coaches will serve as a friendly and consistent presence at one of our community partner sites.

The primary goal is to build relationships with parents and caregivers, listen to their needs, provide practical parent and family support, and help connect families with additional Entitled Futures services and resources when needed.

This is an in person community based position. Coaches will spend time where families already are, talking with parents, participating in school and community activities, and helping make parenting and behavioral health support feel approachable and easy to access.

This is a nonclinical role. Coaches do not provide therapy, diagnose conditions, or conduct clinical mental health assessments.

Coaches will work with parents and caregivers of young children through our partnership in Emeryville.

Staff will have access to the school campus and after school programming and will interact directly with families during school, after school, and family engagement activities.

Because this position involves working on a school campus, selected candidates will be required to complete fingerprinting and any other required school clearance procedures.

Coaches will be based onsite at Lions Creek in East Oakland, working directly with residents and families and helping connect them with parenting, family support, and behavioral health resources.

The Lions Creek location is accessible by public transportation and is near BART.

• Build genuine and ongoing relationships with parents, caregivers, and family members
• Spend scheduled hours onsite so families become familiar and comfortable with you
• Talk with parents about parenting concerns, family needs, questions, and goals
• Provide practical parent education and family support using resources and guidance provided by Entitled Futures
• Help parents identify strategies and resources that may be useful to their family
• Introduce families to Entitled Futures parenting, behavioral health, and family support services
• Connect parents with Entitled Futures therapists or other professional services when additional support is appropriate
• Conduct warm handoffs to therapists and other resources rather than simply providing a referral
• Follow up with families and encourage continued engagement
• Distribute flyers and outreach materials
• Attend tabling events, family nights, school activities, community events, and after school activities
• Promote onsite services directly to parents and caregivers
• Maintain basic records of outreach, family contacts, referrals, and follow up
• Participate in training, supervision, and ongoing learning provided by Entitled Futures

This position is designed to give college students meaningful, hands on experience working directly with families in community based settings.

Coaches will gain practical experience in:

• Listening to family needs and helping identify appropriate resources
• Recognizing when a family may benefit from additional behavioral health support
• Making warm referrals to therapists and other professionals
• Community outreach, tabling, and program promotion
• Working alongside schools, after school programs, community organizations, and behavioral health professionals
• Documenting family interactions, outreach, referrals, and follow up
• Learning how community based programs can reduce barriers to mental health and family support

This experience may be especially valuable for students considering careers in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, education, child development, public health, or other helping professions.
