Independence Support Specialist

The Independence Support Specialist assists individuals with disabilities in achieving greater independence, community inclusion, employment success, and personal goals. This role provides direct support, advocacy, skill development, and coordination with families, case managers, employers, and community partners to help consumers lead meaningful and self-directed lives.

• Provide individualized support to consumers in their home, community, and employment settings.
• Assist individuals with developing daily living skills, including budgeting, transportation, meal planning, personal organization, community navigation, etc.
• Support consumers in achieving goals identified in service plans.
• Promote self-advocacy, independence, and informed decision-making.
• Document services, progress notes, and outcomes accurately and timely.
• Maintain communication with guardians, family members, case managers, and funding sources when appropriate.
• Assist consumers in accessing community resources and participating in social, recreational, and vocational activities.
• Provide systematic instruction and employment-related support as assigned.
• Advocate for consumer rights, dignity, and community inclusion.
• Follow all agency policies, confidentiality requirements, and safety procedures.

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Rehabilitation, Special Education, or related field preferred.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities, mental health needs, or long-term support programs preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule.
• Basic computer and documentation skills.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

• Ability to build positive relationships with consumers, families, and community partners.
• Strong problem-solving and advocacy skills.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Knowledge of community resources and disability services.
