Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Transportation Sourcing Manager is to lead strategic sourcing initiatives for transportation services, such as truckload, LTL, Small Parcel, and intermodal. The role includes developing and executing sourcing plans, negotiating favorable pricing and service with carriers, managing vendor relationships, and conducting financial and market analysis to identify cost‑saving opportunities. The manager also supports non‑inventory sourcing initiatives for Cap Ex equipment, fleet or facility leases, MRO, or services.

Essential Duties
  • Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans for various transportation modes (Truckload, LTL, Ocean, Dray) and build category strategies for multi‑site manufacturing, distribution, or operations‑critical spend.
  • Negotiate Master Service Agreements (MSAs) and site‑specific addenda with carriers, manage contract lifecycle (renewals, extensions, change orders), and ensure terms reflect evolving throughput or site consolidation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors, evaluate performance, resolve quality and delivery issues, conduct risk assessments, and implement mitigation plans.
  • Analyze spend data, assist with total cost of ownership analysis, provide financial recommendations, and drive cost‑saving programs while tracking realized savings or cost avoidance.
  • Conduct research on the supply market for transportation or other services and present findings to support sourcing decisions.
  • Manage sourcing projects, including schedule planning, RFx development, and communication with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Operations, and Manufacturing to align sourcing strategies with business needs and facilitate smooth transitions.
  • Ensure accuracy of freight contract tariffs, rates, and related charges for internal freight accrual accuracy for P&L reporting.
  • Oversee the freight payables process, manage freight payables service provider performance, and communicate exceptions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, and Education (Required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • 5‑7 years of experience as a Transportation Sourcing leader or similar role.
  • 3‑5 years of experience in RFP/RFQ processes to negotiate contracts with carriers.
  • Experience leading freight payables approval and reconciliation processes.
  • Experience working with large, cross‑functional teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of transportation and strategic sourcing.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to prepare cost analysis, ad‑hoc reports, and apply analytical decision‑making processes.
  • Strong data analytic skills with experience in statistics for freight cost management.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and adaptability to change.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
  • Self‑starter with proactive approach.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including interaction with executive leadership and carriers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of JDE, WMS, TMS, and ERP software or similar applications.
  • 8‑10 years of experience in the supply chain logistics area.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

General distribution or manufacturing environment with exposure to seasonal temperature extremes, loud, dusty, and/or dirty conditions.

Frequent hearing, see, sit, talk, type, stand, walk, occasional bend, stoop, reach, drive, repetitive motions, and medium‑light (10‑25 lb) physical work.

Travel required:

Yes, 0–20%.
