The Federal Compliance Specialist provides expert-level guidance and document preparation for customers applying for tax-exempt status (i.e. federal income tax exempt). This role ensures an exceptional client experience by combining accuracy, efficiency, proactivity, and a service-minded approach that reflects StartCHURCH’s values. The Specialist is empowered to make a meaningful impact on clients’ journeys, not just prepare documents, by anticipating needs, resolving concerns, and providing expert guidance throughout the process.
The Specialist works collaboratively with a team of specialists and leadership to deliver results that serve both our internal and external customers:
- Internal Customers – Individuals within or connected to our company, including colleagues, managers, and partners who help deliver our services to the end user.
- External Customers – Individuals and organizations that purchase and use StartCHURCH products or services.

As a Federal Compliance Specialist at StartCHURCH you will:
- Prepare IRS response letters for applications requiring additional information, clarification, or follow-up correspondence after submission.
- Produce a minimum of ten (10) complete federal document packages weekly.
- Communicate proactively with clients to ensure progress through each phase and timely submission of required materials.
- Maintain consistent, timely, and professional correspondence with clients through email, phone, and other approved communication channels to ensure an exceptional customer experience and positive impact on the client journey.
- Anticipate client needs and issues, taking proactive steps to keep the process moving smoothly.
- Manage sensitive client interactions professionally, including de-escalating concerns and resolving challenges with a positive approach.
- Collect, organize, and verify all supporting documents and data necessary for application completion.
- Manage, update, and maintain accurate records in all relevant database systems.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams to ensure smooth handoffs, collaboration, and service consistency.
- Interpret instructions and resolve issues by applying company policies and established procedures.
- Identify additional services that may benefit clients and assist them in exploring available options.
- Participate in departmental meetings, projects, and professional development activities.
- Follow all policies and procedures related to quality, health, and safety.
