Heavy Equipment Operator, Construction Labor / Trades
Responsibilities
- Perform physical labor at construction project sites, operating hand and power tools such as air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, and small mechanical hoists.
- Clean and prepare work sites, dig trenches, set braces to support excavation sides, erect scaffolding, and remove rubble, debris, and other waste materials.
- Assist other craft workers and coordinate material handling, storage, and site unloading of trucks.
- Ensure safety and incident reporting procedures are followed and communicate concerns to the project foreman or safety director.
- Verify that underground and overhead utilities have been located or exposed before excavation and review trenching requirements with the superintendent.
- Maintain a clean job site daily, picking up material, tools, and small equipment to eliminate potential hazards.
- Perform tasks as directed by management and keep relevant supervisors informed of actions that may affect project execution or company operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent, with 6 to 12 months of construction experience or equivalent education and experience.
- Knowledge of and ability to work with construction equipment, materials, and supplies.
- OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR certification, and demonstrated knowledge of safety precautions and procedures.
- Ability to read and understand safety training videos.
- Willingness and ability to perform manual work and work with mathematical concepts (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions).
- Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to follow and transmit written and oral instructions, and good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to meet an attendance schedule reliably and consistently as required by management.
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by any employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The position may require sitting, standing, walking, bending knees, stretching arms, speaking, and hearing.
Occasionally the employee may be required to stoop or kneel.
